Celebrating Earth Day All Week- Monday

Magic Earth Milk 

What you need:

• Green Food Coloring
• Blue Food Coloring
• 1/2 Cup Milk
• 1 TBSP Dawn Dish Soap
• Q-tip
• Small Dish 

What to do: 

1. ​Fill a small dish with 1/2 cup milk.
2. Randomly add a drops of green and blue food coloring.
3. Dip the q-tip in the dawn dish soap and then  put it in the mix. 
4. Watch the colors mix together!

The science behind the experiment:
The Dawn dish soap does not mix with the milk, it spreads on the surface. As it spreads it grabs the blue and green food coloring swirling together like planet Earth.  This happens because milk is a fat molecule and the molecules in the dish soap are attracted to them. When the q-tip is dipped into the mixture the molecules race around trying to bond giving the swirling pattern.
